Energy consumption
Depending on the location, a decision must be made as to which forms of energy are used and how in order to optimise processes in terms of
- economic efficiency
- sustainability
- costs
with energy. The fact that BECOM Electronics GmbH does everything in its power to utilise valuable energy and not waste it is demonstrated by the use of
- heat recovery
- Purchase of 100 % green electricity
- heat pumps
- LED lighting
- CO2 neutral printing.
As a manufacturing company, our influence on energy consumption outside the BECOM Group is limited to complying with all measures to minimise our carbon footprint when developing products.
- Development of products
- Selection of raw materials
- Selection of suppliers
- Optimisation of logistics
- production efficiency
minimising the ecological footprint.
Compared to other branches of industry, the use of energy in the production of assemblies can be characterised as rather low. Although it has always been an endeavour to achieve the best possible results with as little energy as possible, not only in terms of sustainability and economic efficiency. At the time when BECOM began to take targeted measures, consumption was already below the benchmark for comparable industries.
In general, there can be no production-related release of greenhouse emissions. The entire heat requirement at the main plant can also be covered by utilising process waste heat and heat pumps. The fact that electricity is used as the main energy source and, as already mentioned above, is produced 100% ecologically, means that the statement is correct at the main plant:
0% emissions
from buildings and processes.
The vehicle fleet corresponds to the current state of vehicle technology and is constantly being modernised. Although our traffic volume can be described as low, we are also taking measures here.
We
- organise shared transport
- promote carpooling for work
- promote carpooling on the way to work
- evaluate e-mobility
Although the site in Hungary is heated with gas, the utilisation of waste process heat in production is also largely exploited there. All other sites are rented properties which, where they are CO2-relevant, are heated either with heat pumps or district heating.
As water is used exclusively for hygiene purposes, we and the water board see no need for separate treatment. All wastewater from all plants is disposed of via the local water system, just like the wastewater from a normal home, and after treatment in the wastewater treatment plant is fed into the surrounding watercourses in drinking water quality.
Automatic cleaning systems regenerate the washing liquors to such an extent that sludge and solder residues can be passed on to certified recycling companies without any problems.
Preserving what is valuable - waste = recyclable material
Back in 2003, we began the systematic introduction of a waste management concept, which is overseen by a suitably trained waste management officer.
Since then, various measures have been implemented with the support of the management:
- Comprehensive waste separation for recycling
- Separate collection of non-ferrous metals from production for recycling
- In-house regeneration of tin slag
The introduction of a certified environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001 took place in 2011:
- Avoidance of waste - recycling of raw materials
- No environmental contamination (as successfully implemented since our existence)
- Avoidance of hazardous substances. If, then collected and recycled by certified companies
- We do not produce any waste water that enters the environment untreated
- All necessarily channelled surface water should be returned to the exact place where it would have fallen as rain by infiltration
